GSLS and IFSLR collaboration announcement

PentaVision LLC, parent company of the Global Specialty Lens Symposium (GSLS), announces that the Global Forum for Specialty Lens Research (GFSLR), formerly known as the International Forum for Scleral Lens Research (IFSLR), will take place at the conclusion of the Global Specialty Lens Symposium, on Sunday, January 27 at The Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas, NV.

Dr. Jan Bergmanson, who began the IFSLR two years ago, will continue in his role as director chair of the GFSLR. The mission of the meeting - to advance the discipline of scleral contact lens prescribing through the coordinated efforts of evidenced-based research and clinical practice — will be broadened to include all specialty/custom contact lenses.

The GFSLR is an open meeting where practitioners and laboratories interested in the latest developments and research attend to exchange ideas. The meeting is dedicated exclusively to research-supported presentations by some of the best-known experts working in the specialty lens field today.

Dr. Jason Nichols, GSLS education chair, said, "Jan Bergmanson has developed a unique meeting in conjunction with his ongoing Cornea, Contact Lens and Contemporary Vision Care Symposium. Like the IFSLR, the purpose of the GFSLR is to address key issues in scleral and specialty lens research by those involved in the field—and, in particular, with industry itself. The meeting includes a combination of short lectures and interaction/discussion through focused panels and audience participation. With its unique style, the IFSLR took off with lots of enthusiasm from participants and industry alike."

Dr. Bergamanson added, "The GFSLR, in tandem with the GSLS, will be a unique and the pre-eminent forum for contact lens practitioners and industry worldwide to share new specialty lens clinical and research evidence, and discuss challenges needing innovative resolutions. To stay on top of your field, it's a meeting you don't want to miss!"

PentaVision and Dr. Bergmanson concluded that this collaboration between GSLS and the IFSLR would be beneficial for attendees and exhibitors at each meeting by combining their location and timing - providing in-depth, world class specialty contact lens education in one setting. The IFSLR is being rebranded as the Global Forum for Specialty Lens Research (GFSLR) to reflect the expansion of its content scope, and association with GSLS. Details regarding the GFSLR education program, along with attendee information and opportunities for industry sponsorship, will be announced soon.

The most recent GSLS was held January 25-28, 2018 at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Nearly 1,000 participants—including 674 eyecare professionals from 35 countries, plus more than 62 sponsors and exhibiting companies—attended the meeting and praised the course content, exhibits, venue, and meeting management. Plans are underway for the 2019 GSLS, taking place from January 24-27 at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Details will be available in Contact Lens Spectrumand online at gslsymposium.com.
