GPLI resources in times of corona

The latest news from GPLI:

It is very natural for all of us to wonder why we are experiencing the effects presented by the coronavirus.  How do I communicate with my patients needing contact lenses or urgent care?  Do I need to lay off employees?  How long am I going to be impacted?  These concerns are very personal and very understandable.  One unexpected outcome that is presented to all of us that we have all considered to be very rare and quite precious and is now available in abundance is ... time.

And with time comes an opportunity to address those contact lens goals and tasks that have always been there to experience but impossible to achieve with such a busy schedule.  The GPLI and our partner organizations have several such programs and resources that could be considered during the days and weeks to come.  These would include the following:

Strategies to Help You Manage Your Contact Lens Practice.  16 prominent contact lens specialists and members of the GPLI Advisory Board were surveyed for their strategies for providing contact lenses to their patients as well as overall contact lens care during the COVID-19 pandemic for an online article available at  CL SPECTRUM Link.

Contact Lens Webinars.  The GPLI has almost 100 archived webinars on every conceivable specialty contact lens topic presented by the most prominent experts in our field.  They can be found at:  GPLI Archived Webinars.  In addition, another 12 webinars are archived in the students/residents tab, all of which could be beneficial to any eye care professional desiring more knowledge in a given contact lens area.

Disinfecting GP Trial Sets.  In offices that have numerous GP diagnostic sets, this could be a good opportunity to disinfect these lenses.  The GPLI - in cooperation with the CLMA,  American Academy of Optometry and the American Optometric Association - recently introduced a laminated card on how to in-office disinfect GP, hybrid, and soft lenses.  This can be ordered complimentary at:  GPLI Ordering Resources Link

Keratoconus and COVID-19:  What you need to know.  This upcoming webinar from the National Keratoconus Foundation for which the GPLI assisted with content, along with shared expert advice from many CLMA member laboratories, will be available at www.nkcf.org.  It is presented by GPLI Advisory Board member, Dr. Stephanie Woo.  Time and date to be announced.

Case Reports

.  Of course, this is an excellent opportunity to write case reports if pursuing becoming a Fellow or Diplomate in the American Academy of Optometry or becoming a Fellow in the Scleral Lens Education Society.

Please do not hesitate to email me at ebennett@umsl.edu if there are any resources we could develop that you feel would be beneficial to you and your practice.   Our fulfillment staff is operational and ready to ship educational resources for you, your staff and patients.
