Federal German Cartel Office: Fine against Ciba Vision Influence on Internet trading The Federal German Cartel Office have announced that they are to impose a fine of 11.5 million euros on Ciba Vision Vertriebs GmbH, Germany. The company is accused of having illegally influenced Internet trading in their own brand of contact lenses and of influencing the resale prices of the Internet dealers in an anticompetitive way.  Ciba Vision denies the accusation but has announced that it will not be taking legal action. The contact lens manufacturer stated that it maintains a monitoring and intervention system for observation and control of the selling prices of Internet dealers. When the resale price of individual dealers fell below the recommended retail price (RRP) by more than a certain amount, Ciba Vision staff would contact the Internet dealers concerned and try – in many cases successfully – to induce them to raise their selling prices.
