Contamac Ltd, UK-based leading global providers of contact and intraocular lens materials, recently acquired Opteq B.V. This new focus on the high precision lens machinery arena is the second significant announcement from Contamac in 2004, following shortly after the launch of the new OPTIMUM range of GP contact lens materials.

This new associate company will concentrate on the development, promotion and support of the Opteq lens production equipment for contact and intraocular lens manufacturers across the globe. Heading the new venture are Ken Payne and Henk Kiela.

Ken Payne is a well-known and respected personality in the lens industry. Prior to joining Contamac three years ago, Ken had been the Director of European Operations at DAC International for ten years. Currently President of EFCLIN, the European Federation of the Contact Lens Industry, Ken brings over 20 years of experience in lens manufacturing applications and an excellent understanding of the changing needs of the global contact and intraocular lens markets.

Henk Kiela has many years of engineering experience, including senior technical positions with Philips and with Euro Precision Technology. Henk designed the Opteq high precision and high quality lens manufacturing equipment and he has continued to develop the technology further. Henk and the technical team will be based in the Netherlands. There will be strong sales, customer service, marketing, logistics and management support from Ken Payne and his colleagues at the Contamac global headquarters, near Cambridge, England.

There is an obvious strategic synergy and strength between Contamac Ltd and Opteq. This announcement demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to offering lens manufacturers the highest quality lens materials and equipment, together with the highest standards of service. Contamac Ltd Managing Director John McGregor, comments “This is an important occasion for Contamac. We believe that this acquisition will contribute to the further development of the contact and intraocular lens markets, reinforcing our tradition of close collaboration with lens producers and designers.”
